The Sherwood Elks are part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America. The BPOE was founded in 1868 in New York City. Our Sherwood Lodge was chartered in 1966 and quickly became an active participant in the Sherwood community.
Our mission is to promote the well-being of our children and veterans by holding programs for kids in the community and for our veterans. Each Lodge across the country does this in various ways depending on the needs of the local community.
Here in Sherwood, we support our youth with several programs; Scholarship contests, Eye Safety Poster Contests, Hoop Shoot Events, Fund Raisers for the local school athletic programs, and many more. Our veterans are supported through donations and active involvement with the vets at OHSU Veterans Hospital. We hold several functions throughout the year to show support for our veterans. As a non-profit, we also hold fun events for our members who so willingly share their time and money to make our community support efforts successful.
